To everyone who knows him, Phillips H. Lord is a patriotic American, but to one woman in Lincoln, he is a bottleneck in this country's war effort. The woman, avid listener to the "Counter Spy" network series which Lord produces, objects to the way David Harding, the program's central character, abuses the tires on his car. According to a letter the Lincoln fan writes to this column: Harding is taking advantage of his position as "chief U.S. counter spy." Even when he is not chasing spies, he takes his car around corners so fast you can hear the tires squeal, and when he stops the car you can almost smell the tires burning." In answering, Phillips Lord might explain tht the sound of squealing tires on the program consists of a recording used by the sound effects man.

Peggy Allenby, actress on Phillips H. Lord's "Counterspy," regrets the realism which Jay Hanna, the director, brings to his work. Arnold Moss, playing a Nazi spy, had to slap Peggy, but at rehearsal the sound made by the sound effects man didn't satisfy Hanna. He and Moss went into a huddle, and when the program went on the air Moss really slapped Peggy, and hard! |

Pepsi Still Reported Dropping ABC's "Counterspy"
Despite denials, reports persisted last week that Pepsi-Cola plans to drop "Counterspy," currently airing at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays on ABC. Blow agency execs are expected to get their notice from the sponsor this week. The soft drink outfit signed a 39-week contract with ABC in January, but it is said to have decided to cancel out at the end of the current cycle.
